For my first Mother's Day, I wanted to spend it with the one who taught me how to be a wonderful mommy, my mom! We made the drive down to Houston on Friday afternoon. The drive started out wonderful until the storms hit. Those storms packed a huge punch and it took us 6 and a half hours to get to their house. Caleb did awesome the whole time....because he slept the whole time! We thought it was amazing at the time, but when it came to bedtime, he wanted nothing to do with it! He would scream when we swaddled him (he usually loves the swaddle) and forget trying to get him to lay down in the pack-n-play. Our little guy wanted to party all night and was up till 4 am. Matt fell asleep with him on the floor till 4, then I took over from there, so we both got some sleep.
My parents loved on him and played with him while Matt and I had breakfast and got ready for the day. When I was done with breakfast I walked into the playroom to see this sweet sight! I quickly grabbed my camera to snap these pictures. I'm so glad I did, they're just so precious.
My sister and niece arrived late Saturday morning. It was so much fun seeing Kaley look at Caleb. Whenever I asked her "Where's Caleb?" she would pat her chest, haha! I think she hears "Kaley" so she points to herself. We didn't think through his name very well when we picked it out I guess haha, oops! The rest of the weekend she would refer to him as "baby" and always say "MATT! HA-EE! Baby?" whenever he was napping. She is adorable!
On Sunday we went to my parent's church, Houston's First Baptist, and enjoyed a wonderful service. My dad held Caleb during the worship time and he slept through the whole thing! Once the pastor got up though, he began to whine so Matt took him out and fed him. I joined him soon after when my dad realized he was holding Caleb's paci! That paci is worth as much as gold when it comes to feeding Caleb. I rushed it out to Matt just in time. I could hear Caleb screaming all the way down the hall. (To say Caleb hates it when you take the bottle away from him is an understatement.) Soon after Caleb was done eating, the service ended and we headed back to my parent's house for lunch.
The drive back to Dallas was anything but easy. We laughed a lot during all the fiascos. We made a stop at the Sam Houston statue in Huntsville. We took pictures next to it and then the Caleb Poop Blowout of 2012 happened. So we tag teamed the diaper change in the back of the car with Caleb screaming the whole time. It was nice, real nice. A few hours later we stopped in Ennis to grab dinner. While we were waiting for the food I started to smell a rank smell. Caleb did it again, a huge poop. So we had another tag team diaper change and we were on the road again. 6 hours later and we made it home.
It was a very eventful drive to and from Houston, but it's a trip I will never forget! It was a great first Mother's Day, and I am so proud to call Caleb my son!

ReplyDeleteOh, Holly this is a precious blog and I love the pictures! You can't imagine how special Mother's Day was for me with my two girls and their children! Our family just keeps getting better and better, bigger and bigger and more blessed everyday! I'm glad you had a wonderful time with us, because the feeling is definitely mutual :)))) Caleb is a very lucky little fellow to have you for a Mommy, and when the day comes that he can tell you himself, it will melt your heart away. God is good!
