Glucose Test

This morning I had my glucose test and that "wonderful" drink everyone talks about. I was pretty nervous about this appointment from all the talk I was hearing about it. My doctor told me I didn't need to fast beforehand, but just don't eat a donut or a big meal right before I take it. So to be on the safe side, I didn't eat anything after 5pm the night before! Needless to say, I was STARVING by the time the test was over!

The first thing she did was measure my belly (which is right on track) and listen to his heartbeat. She had trouble finding it because he was moving around so much. At one point he kicked my right side and she laughed because you couldn't miss seeing the big bump of his foot haha! She finally found it and it sounded great to me! I forgot to ask what the heart rate was, but if it was concerning she would've told me.

Then came the drink. I wasn't given a choice of flavor, it was the orange kind and was cold (thank goodness)! I took a deep breath and just started chugging it. To my surprise, it really didn't taste bad at all! I honestly don't know what all the hype was about. I'm guessing since I never drink any soda, that's why I wasn't so disgusted of it's "flat" taste. Towards the end of the drink though it started getting REALLY sweet, to the point I was getting really nauseous. I started freaking out thinking thoughts like "what if I throw it all up? I'll have to drink it all over again. Oh no." So I just took deep breaths and thought about other things. Like shopping and sleeping. :)

During the 1 hour wait we went over to the maternity ward and signed up for lots of classes! Childbirth, Infant Safety & CPR, Breastfeeding and the Car Seat class. Unfortunately, all of these classes are full day classes. Bye bye Saturdays!

While we were there we got to see twin girls that were just born! The dad was coming out of the OR with his scrubs still on and was showing his mom and M-I-L his two daughters. It was a very cool moment and made everything SO much more real! We also saw a couple arriving for induction. She looked so calm to me! If I have to be induced I pray I am as calm as she was!

Then it was time for me to get my blood work done. I was actually dreading this part more than the drink! It hurt more this time than the other times i've had my blood drawn, but it wasn't too bad. It was over before I knew it. In a few days i'll see if I passed or not. Oh I hope I do!
