First time in the nursery

Using his bottle labels for the first time!

Today was Caleb's first day to be in the nursery at church! I've kind of been dreading this day for a long long time. Ever since his surgery we've been extra cautious about the way he eats. I know we don't have to be, because he is 100% healed up, but we still like to be cautious. That means we still stop 3-4 times during the feeding to burp and let the formula settle in his tummy. Maybe this is normal for all babies? I don't ask other parents how they feed their babies, but I have noticed in public places where parents will just let their baby drink the whole bottle straight, then burp. I always feel so silly when telling anyone who feeds him the rundown on how we do it. So, of course, when it came time to drop him off I was ready to give the feeding instructions. I was so happy when they gave us a card to fill out that had everything listed out that I was worried about! When he needs to be fed, how much, does he like the paci, does he sleep with a blanket or not...and so on. It really put my mind at ease! I filled the card out and watched him play on the play mat with the nursery worker. We told him "I love you!" and walked out. I thought it would've been harder, but knowing he was in good hands (and the fact that my mother-in-law is the children's minister helps too!) I didn't worry for a second.

We did peek in on him between the service and Sunday School and he was just waking up from a nap. He gave us a big smile and it melted my heart! I love how he knows who we are and greets us with the best heart warming smile.

Once our SS class ended I pretty much bolted towards the door leaving Matt in my dust. I told Matt he was being too slow and to hurry up! I could've picked Caleb up on my own, but since this was a special Sunday being his first time in the nursery, I wanted both of us to pick him up together. When we got to his room the workers said he did great! They said when they changed his diaper, he cooed. When they layed him down, he cooed. When they fed him, he cooed. Yes I'm bragging, but he really is such a happy baby! I'm so glad he was given a great report.

One funny story they told us was that he was very interested in a little girl in his class! Wherever she went (she is older and crawls) he watched her every move! We will be sure to give him the "don't stare at girls, it's creepy" talk when he's older lol!

  1. I put Ashlyn in the nursery for the first time this past Sunday and they had to text me to come get her b/c she was crying so hard. As soon as I walked in and held her she stopped immediately. Poor baby ;(

  2. I totally cried when I dropped Presley off for the first time. And she cried too (after I was gone) and so I had to go and get her about 30 minutes later. She loves it now though. It does get easier! :)
